Hi black cheff, sore throats can be an early warning sign of a cold or flu, or they can be the result of a viral or bacterial infection. They can also be the consequence of allergies or simply sleeping with our mouths open.

A sore throat is an acute inflammation of the lower pharynx mucous membranes. It can be an inflammation of the tonsils. If sleeping with your mouth open due to a stuffed nose causes the sore throat, then a cool mist humidifier in your room will help. This will add moisture to the air and ease your congestion. If, on the other hand, your sore throat is from a cold or flu, then there are a number of remedies available to ease your misery.

Gargling is an effective way to soothe your throat and the inflammation that exists. There are a number of solutions you can gargle with.

Salt water is among the most popular of these. Simply mix 1 teaspoon of salt with an eight-ounce glass of warm water. Gargle the whole mixture and repeat every hour as necessary. This combination will increase the blood supply to the area by washing out the mucous and dilating the capillaries.

You can also gargle with diluted lemon juice in warm water, or add 1 spoon of bourbon or whiskey to a glass of water to numb the area.

Chamomile tea cooled to a lukewarm temperature for gargling has also been known to be soothing. Look full article: http://www.askedweb.com/askedweb/Sore_Throat_Remedy/

I'm going to try the warm salt water one myself next time I need it. But one thing that I've found helps with a viral sore throat and with the roughness in the throat after the sore throat gets better: ginger root, grated finely and put into boiling water. I suppose you could add whisky, honey, etc.

I used to use Beecham's powders, which are a mixture of aspirin and caffeine and tasted nice, but I turned allergic to caffeine.

Honey is your best weapon - but please don't put it in hot water or heat it as the effectively is drastically lessened, if you want to sweeten a herbal drink you can use honey but just regard it as a sweetener. Thyme tea is a nice one - very effective. As is black currant tea. For a gargle then there is nothing better than slightly warm very salty water and spit it out after the gargling. Good high doses of Vitamin C is good - about 2000mg taken at intervals. Also think about taking a zinc susupplement

Honey lemon tea and gargling with salt water should help soothe it. If it's strep throat, though, you might need an antibiotic.

Warm salt water....It kills the bacteria in the throat that causes the pain. This is accomplished a lot faster than OTC meds.

Gargle with warm salt water to kill any bacteria, and slowly swallow a spoonful of honey to soothe it.
If it's from a cold, drink hot water with crushed ginger and lemon.
