Good day computer experts! My desktop pc crushed. Every time I boot the computer it won't start and displays a message "missing or corrupt file, WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM. I tried F8 when I start the computer but it won't start in Safe Mode and other start options either. I can run the XP installation disk Recovery Console but it seems like its a DOS command in repairing it. I have no knowledge whatsoever in DOS. Can you please help me the step by step procedure and commands to use to repair my system? This is my first time to attempt to repair a damaged system! Thanks a lot in advance!

Something has corrupted the Windows Registry. You will need to a "restore" install of Windows XP. Put the computer off the XP CD and let the install start. After you do the F8 to agree, you will be asked about formatting the hard drive. Tell you want to "Leave it the way it is". Let the install continue and it will replacing the Windows system files without erasing anything else (the data and programs) off your computer. That should repair the registry.

Do you have InterAcutal participant? if so, it has a browser geared up in that's not laid low with the virus. in case you have it, acquire advert-conscious, replace it, and test it. that is going to eliminate the virus. in case you dont have it, I dont understand what to permit you already know. perhaps acquire adaware on yet another computer, flow it to a USB force or CD, then set up it on your computer. Or, attempt taking it to easily right purchase or Circut city to have it repaired.
