The fact is that we ask professional coaches and athletes to have confidence and to have an ego on the field, so that they can win games and we can cheer them on. We then ask them to abandon the very thing that makes them successful at what they do in the first place; the ego.

Does Steve Spurrier have one? Yes, he wouldn’t have achieved half as much as he has had he not had that ego. But does that make him a jerk? As someone who worked for him briefly, while he coached the Shrine game years ago, I can say, without a doubt; NO.

I believe it’s the moments away from the public eye and cameras that you can tell the character of athletes or celebrities in general. And throughout my time working for Spurrier I can say it was one of the most enjoyable experiences I had while working in collegiate football. Me, a co-worker, and my manager actually sat down and had breakfast with both Spurrier and Butch Davis and I can say both of these guys were funny, genuine and just good people. They didn’t talk down to anybody and certainly treated everyone with the utmost respect. So how should he be judged, by the way he treats others, or by the boastful things he says to fill up airtime on ESPN?

I artwork at USC and that i think of that Steve Spurrier become ultimate on with what he mentioned. that is embarrassing to for him or a member of his education group to ask a particularly recruited participant and sign him only to make certain that he won't be admitted via admissions coverage. that is finished BS. they are asserting that he and Dr. Andrew Sorensen USC president alongside with advert Eric Hyman will do something so this does not happen interior the destiny yet only time will tell while that happens. i desire for an superb season.

I used to think this guy was a jerk but I have revised my opinion.

Looking at his career as a college coach, I think he is one of the best ever. Looking at his career dealing with the media, he doesn't get very many A grades.

But, is his job dealing with the media? Yes, in part. But mostly his job is trying to give advice, education, and coaching to very young men. I think he does that very well.

To be a college coach, you have to have a big ego because you are trying to convince 60 or 70 young men to go out and put their entire bodies at risk just for the glory of a college--most of the athletes he coaches will not earn a living in sports.

He's a guy who has made a very good living coaching college players because he is very good at it. He isn't good at media conferences but any one can look bad at media press conferences.

I think, so far, his legacy is: Excellent college coach. Bad pro coach. Likes to play golf.

Jerk. He left Florida while the program was taking a shift. He realized he could never satisfy their fans because he NEVER beat Florida State at Doak Campbell stadium, yet Florida State could beat them in the swamp. He was Bobby Bowden's son pretty much.....

I think it depends on who you are. If you are a Georgia fan, then he is a complete jerk. If you are a Gamecock fan, then you love him.. Personally, not being either one, I think that he is an egotistical ***. His offense works in college where the talent isn't as good week after week, but in the nfl, he got blindsided.

He's a jerk.

There is a reason his nickname is Steve Superior. It's because of the way he acts.
