The difference is forcing someone to act vs. BS'ing them into volunteering. Similar to today's Iraqi War - the government thinks they are expendable. Think about this, African-Americans are those that have trouble finding employment so they end up enlisting in the military - they get a job and pay and benefits for themselves and their families don't they? During Vietnam War, those drafted were those who didn't necessarily want to fight so the government drafted them. A draft is forcing the young teens to fight in a conflict caused by a number of things - poor diplomacy, hawks v. doves and who knows what else.

I think a disporportianate number of African Americans were drafted because the government mostly drafts people that are economically disadvantaged. During the 1960's, many African Americans faced discrimination in employment and were unable to earn as much money. I think it shows how wars affect the poor and oppressed more than the rich people who actually start the wars.

I thought all Americans were eligible for the draft no what what their background was.

In Australia they pulled certain birthdays out of the hat, if it was your birthday you had to go no matter what. And we Aussies were only there because we agreed to support the US in conflicts, not because we had any personal connection to Vietnam.

Because we did not discriminate, every male once he turned 18 registered for the draft. The draft did not care what color you were.

as a U.S. citizen sometimes these things happen, color plays
no role in it,at least it shouldn't. why wouldn't they have to serve? At least in this country its not manditory like isreal, not that thats a bad idea either.every citizen would have military training, might make things a little more difficult for terrorists,Who knows.

The same reason white people, asian people, hispanic people, and every other male was. Why would one race be exempt from a military draft?
