This is really a ridiculous case. I have actually used that term, but in the tense that I use it, it describes something flamboyant and over the top. And I'm gay. It really is getting too dumb. Education, not monetary damages or suspension is the cure for this type of thing.

certainly. The biblical ingredient is regulation is a venture impossible. that is not trouble-free, that is inexcusable, and that is cruel; All conceitedness and vexation of spirit x7 in accordance to Solomon. It demands perfection in spite of the undeniable fact that it may never make comers appropriate. for this reason regulation people say no person is appropriate, simply by fact that legalism so fault-looking. yet Bible says be ye prefect: Genesis 17:a million & Matthew 5:40 8. So the horrific lawful God on severe ought to be rejected for the better God in heaven: bigger than the heavens, who's appropriate and likewise merciful. That God (of this/that Gods) might nicely be approached without concern he's having a adverse regulation worketh wrath day. 2 fake/genuine Gods to evaluate; not mingle: regulation: i visit forget you & i visit forsake you... Enmity Grace: i visit never bypass away nor forsake you... chum %. one God, and flush the different one as fake God. For if God is the two, then God's a bi-polar psycopath. that could be a comparative coaching with a counter section: -what's grace, while in comparison with what that is not: regulation -what's mercy, while in comparison with what that is not: sacrifice -what's peace, while in comparison with what that is not: branch basically what began can end. The regulation began. eternal grace has no beginning up nor end. The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

I agree with the poster who advocated education instead of punishment. The phrase "that's so gay" is offensive. But so is calling someone a girl or just a part of female anatomy when you think they're being weak, or scared. Punishing someone won't make them stop. It'll just make them not say it around the person who punished them without fully understanding why what they said was wrong.
While I don't fully agree with what the principal did, I applaud their at least acknowledging the hurtfulness of that remark. Too many people just write it off and don't see the ugliness behind it.

I think that punishment is not nearly as needed as education. Rather than punishing that kid, they need to work on educating EVERYONE (teachers, students, etc) about why that is not an acceptable thing to say, and how it's derogatory. I feel the same way about the saying "that's retarded" or "don't Jew me down" or "I feel Gyped." A lot of people don't understand how derogatory they are, and where they come from. They are usually not used out of hate, but out of ignorance of the issues.
When someone I know says something like "that's so gay" I usually explain to them why I'd prefer they didn't use that term in a negative context, or if I'm trying to be witty, I'll say something like "wow, I didn't know a test could have a sexual orientation!"

No, actually it is not any different from the "N-bomb" in the least.
You can excuse, apologize, rationalize any way you'd like and yet you still won't be able to make the "N" word acceptable in any sort of way and the exact same issue is there when using the word "gay" as a negative pejorative.
The implications are the exact same, the only difference is that it isn't YOUR minority they are implying negative connotations by association when they do that.

You're right, I'm just going to start saying "that's so n*gger", especially around black people. Nope, no harm at all.
I can't wait for this cycle of slang to be over. It is derogatory, no matter which way you try to spin it.
Maybe I should also put stuff down by saying "that's so white" or "that's so Christian". Yup, nothing wrong there at all.
Maybe I'll just start to correct kids and say "hey, that's not gay, gay is cool, that there is white, that's so white" until it sticks.

it's not cool to say 'that's so gay'. i know it seems strange bc i have even gotten used to it myself, but it is not right. it has a 'bad' 'weird' 'not cool' connotation and even if we don't think so, we are associating gay people that way when we call something that is bad weird or not cool 'gay'.
it doesn't take a doctorate in psychology to figure that out.
there is a lot of tension bc people in this country and in this world are being denied civil rights, much like blacks and women were before they created tension and fought to attain their God given rights.
be careful hoping for bad things to happen to people, karma can be a *&*^

"That's So Gay" is a term used by most Xgeneration. It means "Stupid, or Dumb". Gay people aren't stupid or dumb. This phrase is a form of hate and bigotry and shouldn't be allowed in school. Schools need to be a place for learning and prhrases like that distract some students from learning.

I did not read your article; however, I would say that the student should be told not to use the phrase. It is a phrase that is often used to make fun of a minority group.

No punishment is deserved. The term "Thats so Gay" means grossly inferior. It is not a reference to sexuality. That principal's vocabulary is out of date.
