I'm in Ohio so what's in Indiana would probably also be here. I've lived here 12 years and never seen one before.

and yes...now that I looked at the pictures it seems the red may have been on the shoulders not the ends of the wings like I first thought

Red winged black bird...I know that sounds simple but we have a lot in Indiana...there are also variations with yellow. Hope that helped a little, I don't know what the scientific name is;)

They are called red-winged black bird, very easily seen around the country side.

If by "tips to it's wings" you mean spots on the "shoulders" -- look on web for photos of "red-winged blackbird"

Yes, I know what you are talking about. I just can't seem to find my bird book, sorry. I see them often close to Cameron Parish, Louisiana.

The yellow under the red may be more or less visible depending on many circumstances.
