Superstitions aside, you are probably dealing with a neighborhood stray that is attracted to the light coming from your window (cats are curious).

You say it kinds of bows to you - probably just some involuntary motion or perhaps a gesture of some sort.

A cat will look you directly in the eyes as sort of a challange. In the wild that is how they would attempt establish dominance over each other and territory (better than fighting). After a while, if it runs away it is because it sees you as the "winner". My mother used to have a cat years ago and we'd get into a staring contest once in a while. Most of the time the cat would look away but sometimes I would look away just as not hurt the cat's feelings.

I wouldn't try to read too much into this situation. Next time you see the cat in your window - wave to it and go back to what you were doing.

The black cat is found in many cultures and again has different but similar beliefs or representations, depending on the culture.

In the tarot, the black cat is found on the Rider Waite deck lying below the Queen of Wands. The cat at her feet is represented here as a domesticated instinctual energy. It shows the energy of playfulness that is anchored closely to the consciousness mind.

In Egypt, the cats had a place of reverence in both their homes and temples of worship. In Egypt there had been found a cemetery, that contained thousands of mummies of black cats therefore they were also treated a royalty. If a cat was killed in those times, the punishment was death of the assailant.

The Egyptians saw the cat as a nocturnal creature that walked the shadows in great confidence with the fine ability to feel and sense the surroundings in the dark of night. Therefore would be seen as an animal of the afterlife

Depending on your beliefs the cat could be a few things. It could guardian, or a familiar, it could even be a reincarnation. The fact that it's black makes you superstitious about it, but it could very well be a bringer of good fortune. Then again it could be warning of something bad. You should look into witchcraft a little, it might give you a little bit of insight on the random presence of curtain animals.

There are many superstitions associated with cats, partly because the cat has lived alongside humans for many millennia. The cat was worshipped in Egypt and to kill one was considered a capital crime. When an Egyptian family's cat died, the cat was mummified and the family went into mourning. Romans, also, considered the cat sacred and introduced it into Europe. By the 17th Century, however, the cat began to be associated with witchcraft and it's luck turned from good to bad in many areas. A practice that became popular for a time was to burn cats and other animals on Shrove Tuesday (before the start of Lent), in order to protect one's home from fire and other calamities.

Superstitions centering around the black cat are some of the most well-known and popular superstitions today. It is interesting, though, because the good or bad luck they possess is dependent on where you live in the world. In Britain and Japan, having a black cat cross your path, is considered good luck, whereas if you live in the USA or several European countries, it is bad luck to have a black cat walk by.

Good luck associated with black cats include:

Possessing a black cat.
Having a black cat greet you at a door.
Having a black cat enter your home.
Meeting three black cats in succession.
Touching a black cat.
Bad luck associated with black cats include:

Meeting a black cat early in the morning.
Having a black cat turn its back on you.
Scaring or driving away a black cat from your property.
Walking under a ladder after a black cat has walked underneath it.

It means that cat knows and trusts you. Cats act purely on instinct. That evening visit is a way to say 'hello'. Consider that high praise from the cat. Quit being superstitious about it and start wondering what about yourself makes the cat feel attracted to you. Are you kind, generous, a little psychic?

In my neighborhood there are two black cats who come up to our windows and doors. They even sneak into our garage from time to time. I am a bit superstitious myself, but I don't think black cats mean any bad luck as I speak from my own experience. May be in the medieval times they did, when people believed that witches can turn into black cats. So I think you are safe. Just be nice to your furry buddy.

AnArdRi said it best:

It's a cat. It looks for food and warmth. It would seem that you only want answers that confirm your point of view, so if you're superstitious, don't read this, all right?

What do you want people to say? "Yes, that cat is a witch's familiar that sent her feline servant to recruit you to Hogwarts."

Nope. Just an animal playin' mind games with you because it wants food and shelter.

In the past when people were really supersititous they would do as many opposite things as they could to blend in and not be discovered. One of the opposites is cats. It is not the black cat. It is really the All White cat that possesses these supernatural powers. A cat hovers or lowers itself only in fear or hiding. It is a submission thing.

So are you being sumissive to a pu*ssy? Sorry just had to tease abit....LOL
