I have heard many names but I am really trying to just find an author that is my favorite. Any help would be appreciated.

I guess you need to find out what you're into- Most of the poets mentioned here are exemplary but immensely different from each other. For instance, if you are into the surreal then Edgar Allan Poe is your guy or (a personal favorite)- Robert Browning.

For the methaphysical poets - I like John Donne

I also like William Blake

Sylvia Plath appeals to the angst ridden

I guess its just a matter of finding a poet who best suits your temperament.

Here's directory link that can make browsing a lot easier

Feeling down and a little bit sad - Rossetti!

Need a little bit of uplifting - Maya Angelou!

Wise words - John Donne

Romance - Keats, Shelley, Rossetti, Byron

Theology/War/Politics - John Lennon/Dylan/Tennyson

Poetry can be found in the strangest places - try Holy Books, Songs, Graffitti - but the best is probably in your head!

Write it down - if you have lived it - it will be wonderful!

My favourite poem by him is Red Red Rose.

Also, I hear Walt Whitman is good.
