I would have thought the Blessed are so because they have no stain on there character! If so then to rejoice at the suffering of others would be beyond them and they would infact feel sadness for those lost souls.
But perhaps I put too modern an interpretation on the issue.
Slim.

Your premises are faulty, your shoes dirty, and your hair is messy -- sorry got carried away - to where know I not.
-----------
If the faithful or righteous were to do that they would be sinning to the extend that God would regret punishing the wicked. (scripture says so)
However, NOBODY will receive ETERNAL TORMENT.
The wicked shall receive everlasting destruction.
(KJV)
Rom 6:7 7For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Ez 18:4 the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
SEE NO TORMENT -- JUST DEATH
Job 3:13-18, For now I should have lain down and been quiet. I should have slept. Then I would have been at rest 14with kings and counselors of the earth, who built waste places for themselves, 15or with rulers who had gold, who filled their houses with silver. 16Or I should have been as a hidden untimely birth, as infants that never saw light. 17There the wicked cease from troubling, and there the weary are at rest. 18There the prisoners are at ease together. They do not hear the voice of the taskmaster (ACV)

If they do then they will be the candidates for the next batch of the blessed to rejoice (or gloat?) over.
What about the poor blue collar devils doing their duty of stoking the fire, keeping the oil on the boil, turning the spit with the fat sinner skewered on?
Surely they will be sent to Heaven for their devotion to duty?
The whole thing becomes a management nightmare, that God only can resolve.

i tend to believe that religious mention of Hell and its torments are designed to scare the sh*t out of you so you conform to the religion and be nice to one another. this could just be another portion of that-- if you go to Hell, not only will you be tormented by eternal fire, but you'll also have countless people laughing at you while it happens.
this is further reinforced by the fact that it was a belief held in 'medieval christianity' which tortured 'heretics' who didn't believe in the Church and supressed scientific progression for about 800 years.

Aquinas said as much-- but it is difficult for us moderns to enter into such an understanding of divine justice or heavenly beatitude. Most moderns do not believe that anyone is damned or that existence is ordered by a metaphysic of justice. Salvation seems to belong to us by right, rather than by merit.

it seams odd that the blessed would rejoice over any ones torment .i mean they failed to bring the wicked to repentance and to see them hurting should cause great pain to the blessed .then again let them burn like sasages on a grill if that is gods will.

If so, it would make those rejoicing no better than those suffering the torments, for the teaching is that God is love.

No one likes a poor winner. Seems rather unchristian to gloat over the misfortunes of others and jeer at them, from heaven of all places.

i don't think it would be rejoicing in a sense that yeah there pain is fun, but rejoicing in the fact that justice has been done and evil repaid.

Could we discuss the coordinates for hell?
Longitude and latitude would be a nice starting place.
