Harold and Maude is a great comedy, albeit I would call it a tragic comedy rather than dark. For the best dark comedy ever, check out Very Bad Things with Christian Slater and Jeremy Piven!! Doesn't get any better than that!

First one that comes to mind is "American Beauty", that was an incredible one. Spacey just blew me away, I really identified with the guy even though I'm younger and have yet to be married, much less have a family.
Also "Fargo", and "The Ice Harvest" was a good recent one.

For me the best movie would have to be Kiss Kiss-Bang Bang.It stars Robert Downey.Jr. and Val Kilmore. If you haven't seen it.give it a try,it is worth the price of a move retal.
