TAKE THE TOP OF THE AIR SLEANER OFF AND LOOK AT IT. IF A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS FLIES OUT WHEN YOU OPEN IT, THEN IT WAS CLOGGED

Well,if your'e having doubts about it,then you should replace it.Where the filter is depends on the make and model of the car,on newer fuel injection engines the air cleaner can be located in different, (as they don't have the carb for the air cleaner to sit on,as mentioned in a previous answer),the air cleaners are not that expensive,so if you have questions about it needing replaced then you should go ahead and get a new one.They should be replaced or at a miniumn checked every 3 months,maybe sooner if on a dirt road a lot and real dry conditions like we are having now.

Take the air filter out and take a trouble light or any thing else with an exposed bulb, shine the light on the intake side and see if you can see light shine through it. If you can't see light shine through it, it needs to be replaced.

Take it out and look. It will be in a housing on top of the carburetter. If it is black it needs attention. Your car handbook should give you details as to whether it can be cleaned or has to be replaced

Just take it out and look at it. If it looks dirty - it is.
