Warm temperatures melted an area of western Antarctica that adds up to the size of California in January 2005, scientists report.
Satellite data collected by the scientists between July 1999 and July 2005 showed clear signs that melting had occurred in multiple distinct regions, including far inland and at high latitudes and elevations, where melt had been considered unlikely.
“Antarctica has shown little to no warming in the recent past with the exception of the Antarctic Peninsula,” said Konrad Steffen of the University of Colorado, Boulder. “But now large regions are showing the first signs of the impacts of warming as interpreted by this satellite analysis.”
Changes in the ice mass of Antarctica, Earth's largest freshwater reservoir, are important to understanding global sea level rise. Large amounts of Antarctic freshwater flowing into the ocean also could affect ocean salinity, currents and global climate.
NASA’s QuikScat satellite detected snowmelt by radar pulses that bounce off of ice that formed when snowmelt refroze (just as ice cream turns to ice when it is refrozen after being left out on the counter too long.)
Maximum high temperatures of 41 degrees Fahrenheit that persisted for about a week in Antarctica caused a melt intense enough to create an extensive ice layer.
Evidence of melting was found up to 560 miles inland from the open ocean, farther than 85 degrees south (about 310 miles from the South Pole) and higher than 6,600 feet above sea level.
Water from the melted snow can penetrate cracks and the ice, lubricating the continent’s ice sheets, sending them toward the ocean faster and raising sea levels, the scientists said.
“Increases in snowmelt, such as this in 2005, definitely could have an impact on larger scale melting of Antarctica's ice sheets if they were severe or sustained over time,” Steffen said.
No further melting has been detected through March 2007.

According to Rush and Many Republicans none of this is true. The Republicans claim to know more than those that study Global Climate change. Some Republicans have even claimed this is caused by a hotter Sun.

Could there be something to what Al Gore is saying after all? Maybe when Miami, Corpus Christi, Williamsburg, and Charlston are all under a few feet of water people will have a clue that there just might be something to the global warming. When crops are dying due to lack of water in the inerior of the North American continent and water is higher than gas is today maybe people will get a clue that there might be something to the global warming. When children are suffering from skin cancer because there is no ozone to protect their skin from UV rays maybe someone just might figure out that there is something to the global warming thing. While some is natural and some is man made it is still there. We may not be able to do anything about the natural cycle of things but we can do something about the man made part of it and we must start now or we won't be around to worry about it.

Never heard Rush or other conservatives say it isn't getting warmer. What I have heard is that weather is cyclical, warming and cooling have both happened in the last 500 years or so. Proven by the same scientists and scientific methods that are being hailed as the know all be all for global warming.

Problem comes when humans are blamed for all of it and our evil ways. Cars have only be around for about 110 years. Industrial revolution possibly 250 years. What caused warming and cooling periods prior to that. Wasn't cars. Wasn't industrial revolution.

And just what do you propose to do about it anyhow? You wanna kill off 3/4 of the worlds population. Stop all industry, eliminate all cars and gas engines?. If it is that dire, that's what will have to be done to make any difference. And what happens if it doesn't work and now all those folks are dead and we have forgotten how to make industry run or cars?

Instead of screaming that" the sky is falling",give some real solid workable answers that will make a difference right away.

All mere people are sinners. i've got faith that all of us have lied approximately many stuff. That a guy or woman has lied, and sinned in lots of different techniques, would not advise she or he isn't a Christian. that is frankly genuine that many, probable all, individuals Christians have lied. To be clean approximately that verse from John, we ought to understand that that is written with some quantity of poetic license. The declare isn't that individuals who fail to love their brothers ought to therefor actually hate God. The message is that as long as one lacks love for even the least of his brothers and sisters, then he lacks love that plenty for God Himself. The message is that all of us want progression. to disclaim this may be yet yet another lie. i'm Roman Catholic. As such, I admit that i'm a sinner. As a Catholic, I additionally admit that I humbly seek for and settle for the Mercy of Jesus Christ, who's God. Peace be with you. solid evening.

Clearly, the satellite images and photos of lost ice are all photoshopped. The entire world's scientists whose works have been peer reviewed are in cahootz to bring down America's economic stranglehold on the other countries. It is a conspiracy to introduce communism!

If I did, I'd have to love you. You do not know what you are talking about. No one is saying those things aren't true. It is the cause and solution that are being questioned.
