You possibly damaged your engine. When your oil pressure and flow drops you stop lubricating the bearings, valves, lifters, rockers and cylinder walls. Which will will cause excess heat and wear. The ticking was the lifters loosing their hydraulic cushion from loss of oil. Most manufacturers put oil pressure as high as possible set set alarms above the minimum pressure so your engine maybe OK. If you don't know much about engines take it to a mechanic and have him fix the leak and check the engine out, otherwise fix the leak and check the engine out yourself. I would recommend a an oil and filter change and check the oil drain plug for excessive amounts of metal particles as this will indicate the amount of damage done.

Been there, done that. Only I may have driven more than 1-1/2miles before I realized the oil light was on. The tapping never really stopped. You'll need a mechanic to tell you for sure but, I used Marvel Mystery Oil with my regular oil and it was only a temporary fix. You may well have damaged your engine. My dad drilled it into me early in my driving career how important it was to check the oil. I used to check it at every fill up but, go out of that habit when I started driving a newer car.

If it's just "ticking" and not "knocking," you're probably OK.
Don't run the engine anymore until you get this oil situation corrected. Have it towed, DON'T drive it.

If what you say about the oil "pouring" out of the engine wasn't an exaggeration, then it sounds like you have a hole in your oil pan which is going to be pricey to fix.

Good luck!

You may have ruined the engine already, but just in case you didn't, have it towed to a garage and get the oil leak fixed. It could be something as stupid as your oil filter fell off, or your drain plug fell out. It could be something much more serious or something inbetween.

Just don't drive it until you get it fixed. If you do, it may be quite costly in the end. good luck
