I'm in honors english and I plan on majoring in journalism at Ohio University (I've been told they have a great journalism program)

While you are in college you will make connections through networking which are invaluable. Be honest with your professors and show yourself to be committed to doing good work. You don't have to agree with them in what they say but if you show them that you can do the work they will respect you for being strong enough to disagree and still show yourself able to do professional work. Your professors can easily be your greatest mentors, the people who will recommend you for internships, etc.
But given that you have not yet graduated from high school it is a waste of time and energy to spin your wheels trying to figure out what you are going to do AFTER college. Take life one step at a time. You can worry about what you will do after college in your junior year of college. Not high school.

Take a look at the University of Missouri, America's first and oldest Journalism school. It turns out a lot of great journalists in both print and electronic media.

Just write--start to develop your own style, if you haven't already.
Talk to others who are studying journalism so you can get an idea of what to expect, etc.

contact you local paper and ask if you could do some work experience which would look good on your cv
