They either state I have won a lottery or they have inherited money from a dead relative and need me to claim the money or help them with it. I would also like to know how they got my email address.

If you use your email address for registering for different websites, you can be the victim of this. Some websites state they will not sell your information, but in reality, some do.
They will sell email lists to people and not even blink about it.
Also, if you are part of a forum, where you can post messages, all they have to do is click your link to send you an email.
Here's what I do.
I have two email addresses. One I use for registering at websites, so If I get alot of junk email, I don't care, and the other email address I ONLY give out to friends and family.
That is what I would suggest you do.
In the meantime, you can mark the emails you get as spam, but It won't do much good, as they tend to use different email addresses every time.

It depends on which for of email yu are using. If it is from outlook then look under the word message and fromthe drop down menu choose block sender. It is time consuming but it will eventually stop them. In yahoo, choose options and then selecting the mail option click on spam protection and add the email address there that you don't want sedning you mail. There are ways in most of them but they are time consuming. Good luck

It depends on what email client you are using. Spamassassin is
one good tool, but if you are using outlook or outlook express some more better tools are there. You move spam mails to another folder and scan them once in a while for any false positives.

You could try blocking their address, but that usually doesn't help much because they will just send from a different address. Try contacting your ISP to see if they have a filter for this type of e-mail, and report them to the Feds by forwarding the e-mail to: "phishing-report@us.gov" without the quotes.

In email you should have all the people you want to recieve set up to go to a special folders.

I use friends and family, business (for salespeople I want to see) and then the inbox is scanned and deleted. Very seldom will I need to add a new email addy to my cleared list.
