I am black, and my friends and I always jokingly call each other "nappy headed hoes."

The exercise of freedom of speech goes both ways. People can say whatever they want to say. They just have to be prepared for the likelihood that others will respond and that other people will understand their use of particular words and phrases as an indication that their use is acceptable by anyone. And I don't believe they are wrong to think this. To believe that it's okay for a particular race to make comments and not others is nothing less than racism. To believe that it's okay for one gender to make comments and not the other is nothing less than sexism. For example, if you are a woman who becomes angered by a man's use of the word "b*tch" while approving of it's use by other women, particularly if the man has the same attitude (and/or uses the word in the same context) as another woman, then you are making gender an issue- not the man. YOU are the one who is being sexist- not the man. The same applies to "nappy headed ho", "cracker", "n*gga", "w*gga", "redneck", and so on, with regards to racism. The same applies to other groups of people. Ever heard a Christian use terms such as "holy roller" or "jesus freak" to discribe his/her self? I have. But some of those very same people piss their pants when non-Christians use those terms, whether or not people are using them in a negative manner. People need to truly comprehend what prejudice is. Likewise, people who support freedom of speech have to realize that it cannot be limited, otherwise we're not truly free to express ourselves.

It depends ex: The two females are black:

Neisha: Hey girl
Dayja: Hey nappy headed ho, what you up to
Neisha: Nuttin' much.
*As you can see they're friends, so it does'nt matter, yet, their voices are calm and friendly*

Another story:

Neisha: Bitc*h I heard you was datin' Tre' Shawn
Dayja: NO bitc*h dats a rumor, get outta' ma' face.
Neisha: Fine den nappy headed ho
*As you can see these girls are arguing making the word more offensive*

In this story, Kerry is white

Neisha to Dayja: Hey my nappy headed ho
Dayja to Neisha: Hey nappy headed ho, what's up
Kerry: Hey my nappy headed ho beloved ones!
*In this story Kerry gets beat up after rounds of being called racist names, she is sent to a community hospital where she is put on a fluid bag and given pain killers every 2.5 hours for bruises, cuts, scrapes, and sore pains in the stomach. *

If your friends think it's funny, than I don't think so. I didn't really think when Imus said it, it was as racist as much as demeaning. It wasn't nice to call a bunch of hard working women "ho's", the nappy headed part just added a sprinkle of race to the mix. I say if your friends are just having fun, go ahead. Me and my friends call each other offensive terms in fun all the time. It's time for the whole nation to relax sometimes. We can't be PC all the time.

Only if you want to be seen as and treated like a "nappy headed ho".

Have more respect for yourself and your friends than that.

I might be offensive to the person that you're talking to. I personally don't care.

I feel the same way about Imus. I think he was foolish, but I'm not offended by what he said. I can certainly understand why the basketball players he was talking about may have been offended.

The rule is, if you are black then you can use the "N" word and all the other "offensive" things to another black person.

Same for Gay. A gay person can call another gay guy a "*******", but a straight guy can't.

I don't think that person would find it offensive but either way you are still degrading yourself and that person when you say that.

Yes, only because if I said the same thing to your friends, they'd probably beat the hell out of me.

If its okay for one person to say it to you, then its okay for others.(no matter the color/gender/etc)
I don't like being called a ********* so I'm not going to allow my friends to call me one either joking or not
