Here's a way to find new music...
1. Go to music.yahoo.com
2. In the Search music box at top right, click artists.
3. In the box next to it type the name of a band that you have been listening to-hit go.
4. Click on the artist's link.
5. Scroll 3/4 of the way down until you see the "Similar Artists" box....
There ya go... artists with the same genre.. and some are not mainstream yet...
Good luck

Radiohead, Unwritten Law, Incubus, Motion City Soundtrack, Brand New, Millencollin, Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Look into other types of music. Dub, jazz, electronic, classic rock, 80's pop is the the kind of music I've been listening to lately. Expand your taste in music and you'll always have something to listen to.

No offense, but doesn't it make more sense to find bands that DON'T have similar music to the ones above if you are sick of those? I recommend going back to the archives. All those bands are ripoffs of bands that came out in the 1980s and 1990s. You're more likely to find good music looking back than trying to find anything that has come out recently.
But that is just my opinion. :-)

If you're bored with the music you're listening to, why would you want people to recommend more music that sounds exactly like the music you're bored with?
Step away from the pop-rock pablum. Expand your horizons. Challenge your brain.
Cat Power.
Kings of Leon.
Pavement.
Arcade Fire.
Sufjan Stevens.
TV on the Radio.
The Shins.
Wilco.
Good luck ...
