My grandmother has been saying that for over 30 years now. I still don't believe it

Yeah but it's no surprise. Things have been going down hill but I'm not going to let a few years leftover until 2012 comes ruin my life when I am still alive. However I hope that the Mayans got it wrong. Remember the so called doomsday prediction in 1998 or something that a comet will crash on the earth by Nostradamus... it's 2007, I don't want to believe in the end of humanity just yet.

what do you mean by end of the world?

the physical world will be here as long as it has been so far unless some raging blind comet destroys it.......

i know what you really mean though, and i think even if prophecy is right, it's beyond human depth and understanding to know when and where

until then spread peace and teach love as much as you can so maybe it will improve.....

do you think i quit running in a marathon because i know i'm not getting first place?

Dr. Stephen Hawking says that if we don't start
colonizing space in the next 100 years, he thinks
it is unlikely that the human species will survive.

Between population growth, the speed at which
communicable diseases can spread, the increase
in damage an individual can do (say, a terrorist)
and the likelihood of natural disaster (say,
an asteroid), he believes only in spreading ourselves
out (which requires getting off the planet), do we
give the opportunity for some of us to stay alive.

I think something significant will happen soon, there's too many people, too many problems and too much stuff going on, but I'm pretty sure it'll be some sort of breakthrough rather than the end of the world.

Whatever day one dies is the end of this world for that person. Best to get right with God. Only He knows when the end will be.

Each generation somehow becomes convinced that the world will end in its lifetime.

I believe that this is a result of the fact that we each know that at some point we're each going to die and that all we know of the world is in our minds, and that when each individual mind dies, that "world" dies with it.

Here are a few other predictions of the "end of the world,"

No. The sun still has quite a long time before it dies. No major meteors on the horizon. There isn't a bomb in existence, yet, that could destroy the entire earth. Global warming, even at it's most horrific, would only destroy life on earth, not the world itself. I'm thinking earth is pretty safe, for now.

We are definitely in the last and evil days. Look at the world around us and everything that is going on. All the evil that is amongst us. Bible prophecy is being fulfilled on a daily basis. We all need to repent and ask God to cover us with his precious blood. The end is not far and those who do not get right with the Lord will be forever dammed to hell.

Well, we could think that -- and then we can turn around and say "How can I make a NEW beginning for this day, this world, MYSELF, and these people around me??

Let's start trying to clean up things around us-- using less plastic, maybe using more biodegradable stuff ( do you know they even make biodegradable plasticware, and drinking glasses out of cornstarch??!!) - RECYCLING our glass and metal and plastic (I work in a state that does not recycle plastic, but I LIVE in a state that DOES-- so I take my plastic home with me to put in my apartment's recycling bin).

And as far as TOXIC goes -- it's not only garbage or non-recycled stuff or chemicals in the water that pollutes the world, but also thoughts, actions, prejudices-- we need to clear those up too!

Everyone needs to make a difference.

Some say in 2012, a comet will collide with the earth and destroy everything....wait, I think that was just a movie.
