Once upon a time there was a fast food restaurant called Burger Chef. You could do it your way. They had all the condiments on a counter for your convenience. Burger Chef went out of business in the 70's because the concept failed. People are generally lazy. They want someone to do it for them. Plus, the condiment counter was filthy. Fast food clerks are also generally lazy.

Hell yes! I always get my burgers and sandwiches plain, and it's like reciting a poem everytime to make sure I don't get any of that crap on my food. The few places that make it plain to begin with have it right. Even the people that do like all that junk on their food could appreciate it too, cuz they can put as little or as much they want, or have some weird combo that might be too embaressing on long to ask for. Oh, this question brought me joy! Haha.

Ive' thought about this before.... I believe like for example... mc donalds... instead of cash register people they should just have little touch screens that allow you to put whatever you want on your burger... it starts out plain and you get to choose each and every condiment... and get charged for each one... Just seems a little easier than telling the cash register people what you wan ton it and what you don't want on it...

Yes, but then the fast food restaurants couldn't make them up ahead of time and have them sitting around waiting for someone to buy them. They would run the risk of actually serving you something freshly made, and they wouldn't want that, now would they?

The restuarants and drive-ins I go to do that. I didn't know this was something not normally done. Even McDonalds will give you meat on a bun for you to add your own stuff.

The restaurant business has taste testers that test each item in many different ways and they put the most popular one on the menu.

Agreed, the process as it is now make me the consumer to all of the work. "I don't want this, I don't want this", etc.

You would think it would make for less mistakes if the waiter or waitress only had to record what the customer wants and not what they don't want.

Great suggestion.

Yes, try What a Berger if you have one where you live. If not go to a restaurant not fast food.
