Lately the President has been refusing to sign any bills that have any removal schedule for our troops. These bills passed through the House and Congress every time. These bills are not the only ones to be subjected to outright refusal - regardless of what we as a people feel. The President has also moved troops into Iran, and has hired and spent exorbitant amounts of money on a private sector company of mercenaries called Blackwater. Do you feel as though you still have power as an individual in this democracy?

Checks and balances Marie.

No, we are not more autocrtic because a president vetos. Do you think we were more autocratic when clinton did not sign the budget and shut down the government in the 90's?

If you are looking for an abuse of autocratic style power, look to the unelected officials in black robes. There are your tyrants.

You're buying into the BS that says that last November was a referendum on mandatory troop withdrawal, and that the American public wants us out right now.

If that's the case, why didn't Democrats uniformly run on that, and among those that did, why didn't they win? Joe Lieberman definitely lost the CT primary because he didn't take that position, and definitely won the general election because he didn't take that position.

If America is turning away from Democracy, the major symptom is the behavior of the Democrats. It is the Democrats who ignore what the majority wants, and convince themselves that the majority of Americans want what the most vocal members of the Democrat Party want.

Do I as an individual have power? Yes, I do. I have about $0.66 out of every dollar I earn that I can still call my own, until the Democrats gain the power to reduce that to about $0.54. Other than that, I haven't had power to resist the Lesser Of Two Evils party (made up of the Democrat franchise and the Republican franchise) in my entire life.

Dictator Bush would have us all parade in front of him with a stiff legged march, our heads ****** to the right and our arms outstreatched shouting "Heil Bush!" if he could.
The restraints on our freedom (in the guise of protection) are exactly the same thing Hitler did to the citizens of Germany in 1936. No difference whatsoever!
His admistration is one of the most corrupt in American history; his blantent croneyism and resultant rape of the middle class, one of the most appaling acts ever carried out by a man in his office.
