It depends on how you define "classic", because I think last years The Departed is well on its way...Go back a decade and a half and watch Goodfellas, another Scorsese classic...Sticking with the mob master try the original version of Cape Fear, which Scorsese honored with his redux (c. 1990). The original has some of the actors from the newer version and has all of the horror and thrills minus the gore. If you don't like westerns, I may change your mind with this one. Nothing beats The Magnificent Seven. This is one acition packed, star studded shoot-em-up whose original score is up there with Star Wars, the Pink Panther, and Jaws. It's Ioosely based on Japanese director Kurosawa's classic The Seven Samurai. Same era, different genre, some of the same actors -- The Great Escape. Steve McQueen on a stolen motorcycle, jumping barbed wire fences, and getting chased by Nazi's! What more could you ask for? Same war, coupla' years earlier -- Stalag 17, a screen adaptation of a broadway hit whose scale isn't as grand but whose intense drama was nonetheless full throttle. Wasn't it great when the bad guys were so easy to pick out? Maybe I'm stuck on WWII, but nothing beats Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca. A chick flick that the manliest of men will watch a second and third time.

Citizen Kane and Casablanca - oh and ANYTHING by Hitchcock such as The Birds (scary), Vertigo (tense) and Rear Window (pure genius). Partculalrly if you are in love with Jimmy Stewart. Speaking of Jimmy - also if you haven't seen "It's a Wonderful Life" then I'd think you were an alien imposter ;-)
