They think that the government has no business taxing them to service the citizens or protecting the rights of minorities, women or non-Christians. I see them that way.

How do you see them?

I have to admit, I do see some of them that way. But I also have relatives who generally vote Republican, and are still against tax breaks for the wealthy and the war in Iraq. My own parents seem like prime candidates for the "I really shouldn't have voted for Bush" bumper sticker--once the initial panic died down from 9-11 and the War on Bad Emotions, I think a lot of Republicans realized in '05 that they had made a horrible mistake. (I was one of them.)

Don't get me wrong, there are still the religious-right crazies out there, but not all Republicans think that way. I find stereotypes to be a bit dangerous--they prevent rational discussion and cause things to degenerate into name-calling.

Short answer: I see Republicans as people. I see Democrats as people. I see third-party supporters as people.

WOW, kind of a harsh view of our government.

However, I do agree with the sentiment. Our government does seem to be more self serving and less concerned about the needs of the people. It has essentially morphed into an entity of individuals who represent themselves, cloak under the guise of doing what is "best" for the PEOPLE as a whole. IMO a vast amount of our representatives have become self-serving, and unfortunately we as a free society have done little or nothing to remove these never do-wells.

Yes this government was initially founded by a "Coalition of Anti-Government Skin-Flints, Racists, Sexists & Bigots"...who's desire was to serve the needs of the people. We need to elect those, even if they are GOP, who are willing to "service the citizens or protecting the rights of minorities, women or non-Christians".

BTW, I served 20 years in the USMC for people like you. You asked a very thought provoking question, eventhough I don't totally agree; not all of those who serve the people are self-serving. I fought to keep your speech free; you don't need "Lenscrafter" or a "new paint brush". You are entitled to your viewpoints. I've fought people on foreign shores who believe you should be quiet and accept things the way they are. Our society was built on anarchism, by a minority group of social deviants; so I guess we all need to re-read our history. Learn from all of our history POSITIVE & NEGATIVE. Learn the ideology, not just the outcome...then we'll know if we're doomed to repeat it!

Peace

If that is how you see them, then you are an idiot.

Republicans have no problem with taxation. What they do have is a problem is with abusive taxation that penalizies producers and rewards sloth. They believe in paying taxes for the core necessities of government, being defense and infrastructure.

Considering that it was the GOP that was responsible for all major civil rights legislation of the 60's to come to pass, that it was a Republican who invited the first black man to dinner at the White House, that it was a Republican who invited the first black man to be an overnight guest at the White House, that it was a Republican who made MLK day a national holiday, I find your opinion to be incongruent with the facts and with history.

The KKK was founded by members of the Democrat party. The Democrats were the ones who turned hoses and dogs on people in Selma, and the Republicans were marching in the streets with blacks for freedom.

More black people, more hispanics, and more asians are in more executive power positions under the leadership of Republicans than democrats. The GOP has nominated more people of color for governorships than the Democrats have.

Seriously, before you paint with such a broad brush, you need to re-read your history.

Just in case you didn't know, this country was formed as a nation of individuals. Our founding fathers were anti-government.

Notice the lack of a strong federal government for the 100+ years prior to FDR.

Wrong, oh "my yahoo" (couldn't you come up with a name
for yourself other than that?) Democrats are the unpatriotic
anti-Americans these days. They believe in murdering babies
(doesn't make any difference that they are unborn as they
are still babies as one can see in x-rays); they put minorities
above everyone else (which is not right); they hate Christians
and try to remove God from everything that it has been put
on for past years and years without objection; they are for
higher taxes (which has never worked for a healthy economy);
they want to legalize bad drugs; they believe in free sex (which has resulted in huge HIV infected partakers; and they
have no clue what to do about terrorists who attack US. I
think all these things lord over the items you mentioned about
the GOP party. Amen.
