Marriage should be for any adult couple in love (gay or straight) who are not related. If god supposedly wanted us all to "fit together" then why are many of us born gay? Why are MANY straight people finding the opposite sex doesn't fit them emotionally, sexually or mentally? If god supposedly wants us all to be straight to produce children, then WHY did he create women who are barren and men who are sterile? There are plenty of straight people who don't want kids or can't produce kids. If there is a god, we are all born for reasons. Homosexuality is not a choice or a defect - it's life for many of us. I'm in a lesbian marriage and I'd love to see it legally recognized everywhere. Homosexuals fall as deeply in love as anyone, and we CAN reproduce even if it's not through intercourse. Having children does not validate marriage and there's heterosexuals who also have asexual pregnancy (artificial insemination) - it's even used on animals. Point is - marriage is about the bonds of lifelong love and commitment. It's NOT about the bible or christianity. If it were, then everyone would be christians and we're NOT!

Marriage means nothing to me other than being a legal status. I take all relationships seriously and being married to someone means the same to me as simply living with the person without a marriage. Marriage is to me nothing more than tax benefits and a simplification of the legal affairs of a couple wishing to share their finances.

I feel that everyone should have an equal right to get married, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, nationality, race etc.

I believe that 'marriage' is a loving bond and spiritual commitment between two people who love each other.

As for the procreation argument, this stems from an erroneous belief that the only valid purpose of marriage is to create offspring. I've actually seen this argument advanced by Christians who themselves are in childless marriages.

The purpose of a marriage is for two people to form a family unit. That family can consist of two parents and seven children or two parents and no children; neither arrangement makes one less valid as a family unit nor diminishes the 'sanctity' of the bond between the couple.

Marriage is a personal choice. If someone wants to marry someone else, let them. I don't see why people are against marriage for others, when in reality, they don't spend any time with the married couples.

And honestly, why be against a marriage that you're not even apart of?

From the womans side it's a no win situation. The man becomes your master basically and you lose your name and everything that you own is given to him by law including your right to life should you fall into a coma without a living will. Men benefit from a non pre nuptial agreement marriage. Women lose. If a woman decides to get married she needs to specifically, legally state what she wants in order to maintain her identity and keep what is hers. Including her name.

In the US we have freedom of religion, should a church decide to marry a loving adult couple, I believe it is the church's right.

With regards to the political side, it is a sad day when we keep rights from our citizens. Those that think it is ok to deny same sex couples equal protection and rights under the law, beware what you wish for today because you start down a path that leads to the slippery slope.

Tomorrow it may be your rights that are being taken away.

i believe marriage should be between two consenting, unrelated people who love each other. it's a symbol of their bond, and not something to be taken lightly.

then, there is the difference between State ( legal) marriage, and the church ( religious marriage).

it's up to that particular religion whether or not to marry someone, and i think that the amount of christians who think they own the word "marriage" is astounding, because there are such things as jewish marriages, hindu marriage.. christianity isn't the only faith to have it.

that said, state-side marriage should be between any two people that love each other, and it is that marriage which gives each other legal rights relating to their spouses ( joint life insurances, tax stuff etc etc).

i know that my same sex partner always talks to me about marriage, and how when he comes to the UK he wants to look into a civil union ( dubbed gay marriage). he sees it as a romantic notion, and who has the right to tell him that he can't marry who he wishes?

so yeah, religious marriage is up to the religion, but there isn't just one religion with marriage, and state-marriage should be available to any 2 consenting and unrelated people, regardless of age difference ( provided that they are both adults), creed, gender, or any other excuse people may bring. at the end of the day, that bond is between those two people, and nobody else has any authority over them or that bond.

Marriage is awesome :) I love it ;)

Marriage, in the eyes of God, is a holy communion. Marriage in the eyes of the law, is a legal contract.

In the United States, people are guaranteed equal access and protection of the law.

In the regard of legal binding contracts, two adults, of sound mind and body, who are legal citizens of the United States, should be allowed to consensually enter into contracts--no matter their gender.

The bible is very specific about following the laws of the land. Those who are Christian, like myself, can choose to marry a person of the opposite gender, yet we aren't to pass judgement on those who may choose not to do so--we are to love them like our neighbor.

I believe that marriage should be for everyone. If you are in love then you should be able to marry whoever you want to no matter if you are same sex or not. It is nobodys business who I love and who I sleep with.
