As-salaam-alaikum, Anna....I don't despise Al-Islam at all...I respect it, I have some knowledge of this beautiful religion before and after 911. I have read parts of the Quran.
I don't claim 2 be a expert but I am smart enough 2 know that what happen on 911 was due 2 fanatical people.
Al-Islam does teach peace, tolerance and forgiveness!
The media has hyped this whole situation.....They make people fearful of this religion but if they do their own research, they will see Islam and christianty is very similiar and have some of the same beliefs.
I have friends and family members who are Muslims and are well respected in the community.
I noticed that some people who answered your question did some research, which is smart so they can come 2 their own judgment.
Peace and Love 2 u sister, if this is your religion hold steadfast 2 your beliefs.
I wish u God Speed!!!

You asked this in another question. This answer is reproduced from that question.
a)
Some time after sept 11, I became intrigue on what makes people drive planes into buildings thinking that they are doing a service to God. I mean, these people are not your average terrorist, committing acts of terror for political reasons. They are fundamental religious fanatics thinking that they are doing God's work, inspired by their religion, ie Islam, and with the strong belief that they will reside in paradise after committing what they call jihad. So I decided to do my research and look up on the internet what is islam all about and how come these terrorist can so misunderstand this religion, at least that was what I thought at that time. At that time, all I knew about islam was that the Koran was the holy book of islam and the muslims friends that I knew were nice people. That is all, ie I didn't know the contents of the Koran.
b)
As I said, sometime after 9/11, I began to research on islam. This was around the time when israel was constantly bombarded by suicide bombers and it drove me to research on the internet why these people can sacrifice their life in such a manner. In my process of research, I stumbled across a website (www.masada2000.org), a right-wing pro-zionist website and in there, there was a link to download an audio clip where in short it was an interview with Craig Winn, author of the book Prophet of Doom (www.prophetofdoom.net) where he reviewed extensively the original sources of islam, ie the Koran and the various authentic islamic hadiths or narrations (Bukhari, Muslim, Ishaq's Sira, Tabari) where these sources depict islam's prophet Muhammad as a murderer, thief, assasin, peodophile, etc and had facts on alot of horrible things about Muhammad. My initial reaction was, hey this can't be true, how can a prophet of a faith practised by so many people be so bad? So, I did my own checking to see if he misquoted any of the Hadith verses or Koranic verses and to my surprise, it was accurate. The Koran did contain so many bad verses, not just 1 or 2, but hundreds of verses commanding muslims to kill non-muslims, e.g.
8:12
(Remember) when your Lord inspired the angels, "Verily, I am with you, so keep firm those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved, so strike them over the necks, and smite over all their fingers and toes."
If I list them all down, I will exceed my word limit, but you can check them out at www.prophetofdoom.net if you want. Even after knowning this fact, I was thinking that, hey maybe we misunderstand the Koran, maybe we shouldn't interpret the Koran so literally, but the fact is that the hadiths narrations confirms the literal interpretation and I check out the hadiths and it was not misquoted. I then look at the site's feedback section where muslims are invited to challenge him on any issues and I found nothing substantial, ie I didn't find any muslim saying that the quotations were wrong, they kept saying its quoted out-of-context but NEVER showed how was it out-of-context, ie the hadiths provided showed otherwise. All they did was to insult him, ridicule him and even some threatened to kill him. When I saw the death threats I immediately knew that there is something evil in this religion that makes people issue death threats the moment their religion was questioned. After that, I came across other websites that showed the same facts, ie www.faithfreedom.org, www.jihadwatch.org where they extensively review islamic literature, ie Koran and Hadiths and showed that members of Al Qaeda, the Taliban, the Saudi Wahabis, the Jemiya Islamia, or any islamic fundamentalist terrorist organization out there adhere 100% to the teachings of the Koran and Hadith and that Muhammad himself if he were still alive will be like Osama bin Laden.
Actually, I don't really care if the Koran contains so much hatred because most muslims I know don't know what the verses of the Koran mean. As long as each and every muslims do not follow the literal interpretation of the Koran, I would have no problem. But if even as much as 1% of muslims follow the literal interpretation, we will have 12000000 muslims ready to kill and behead non-muslims and that is the danger and the primary reason why I am resentful towards Islam.
c)
I think I have answered this earlier. Before 9/11, islam was just like any other religion. All I know about them is that the Koran is the holy book of islam, muslims don't eat pork and muslims are just like any other group of people. After 9/11, with some research on my own, my view of muslims haven't change, ie they are still just like any other group of people, but my view on islam changed dramatically, ie islam is no longer just another religion, as mentioned above.
d) Yes, I probably have gone through all the verses of the 114 surahs, but definitely not remember all of them. The prophetofdoom site lists 5 different translation, ie by Ahmed Ali, The Noble Quran (translated by Saudi mosques, most literal translation), Pickthal, Shakir and Yusuf Ali. Most of the hateful, killing verses are in the front few surahs, surah 2, 8 and 9 are littered with hateful verses. The surahs at the end seems a little strange but hateful verses do pop up now and then. For those who don't know the Koran is not a story book, there is no context nor chronology, the verses are independent from each other and without the hadith narrations, you can't piece together which verses supposedly came before the other verses.
