Don't have a car but... I can now categorize bums in three types thanks to you.
Type 1: the window washer bum -sad and determined
Type 2: the aggressive bum- If you don't give this bum some change he'll yell all the curse words he knows at your sorry little head, if you do give him some change he'll still yell at you, no matter what, he never remembers you and you dread encountering him on the street again (true story, except now he's started using these tactics to sell the big issue including yelling at a pensioner because she didn't have any money, the poor ol dear)
Type 3: the lovely bum- this is the bum who smiles and is polite. Generally you'll refuse them change and they'll say "That's alright, have a good day" at which point you turn around and say "actually..." and give them money. I love this type of bum as they're just really genuinely sweet.

Just a couple of days ago actually. With our nicer weather now, these guys are out in full force. I appreciate the fact that they are willing to work for donations (unlike the pathetic souls who crash on the sidewalk corner and just plead for hand-outs ...); however, they really should ask a driver first if they can do this.

About a dozen years ago, as I passed a certain intersection, that would constantly happen. Finally, I whipped out my .45 and blew one of the suckers away and drove over his body as I beat it outa there. Never saw another windshield assault on that corner again!

Everytime I through downtown Miami it happens...it's been a while since I've been there though.
I usual give them money to NOT wash my windshield!

I though this happened only in Greece!!
It happens every day in most stop lights.... When I see them coming close, I wave "no, no" and.... do you know how I look when I become forbidding??? They know I am not playing games.... hmmmm
