I was a country girl who hated shoes. I used to be barefoot all the time when I was a kid on the farm. It was all my mom could do to keep me from taking off my shoes in the store when we went shopping. Inside or outside, unless I was at school or church, I was barefoot. Probably the longest I went barefoot when I was a kid was about a week. I MIGHT have put on flip flops on occasion to go to the pool or lake but that was about it.

Heel spurs changed that. They came on when I was around 38 years old. They were so painful I couldn't walk for about the first half hour after I got up every morning. They ached all day and going barefoot made them worse. It also made my feet huge and wide. I would probably be a size 9 medium instead of a size 10 wide if I hadn't gone barefoot so much.

Wear properly fitted good shoes with good support for your feet. Those little flats or string sandals I see women wearing are going to ruin your feet too. You won't care how pretty your feet are when the bunions and plantar fascitis are giving you agony.

For me its been at least a week at a time without shoes on. I usually go barefoot 24/7 at home, while shoping, dining, driving around, hiking, working and so on. When I do have to put something on my feet, its usually flip-flops and only for a couple hours at the most. Then its back to barefooting. I love the comfort and freedom of being barefoot. I'll always stay barefoot.

Funny, you asked a question i have never thought much about. When i was in a boarding school years back. I lost my shoes and since i had real strict parents, i had to walk barefoot in the school for a week, before i got noticed by a teacher and sent home. Since then i do it occassionally when at home, though that first time, was very horid. I got sores in my feet!!

Wore shoes a handful of times (and always briefly) in the past ten years when I had to go out on snowy days, not at all for the last three or four winters.

Btw, I had one wart -back in college when I wore boots everywhere except in the shower and in bed. Haven't had one since, including these past ten years of barefooting everywhere.

I go barefoot most of the time, especially at home. My friends are the same way, the first thing we do when we visit each other's homes are take off our shoes and only put them back on when we leave to go home.

I only go barefoot at home where it's safe. I once got plantar's warts on my feet from walking around the pool area of my high school. (Very contageous). I was in a lot of pain and then had to have surgery on my feet to get the warts out. I had to throw out my shoes and limp around for months. Barefoot is NOT one of my things - nor is wearing other people's shoes and I learned a lesson that saves me a trip to the foot doctor! A guy in town goes everywhere barefoot in all kinds of weather. People think he's a fruitcake and I agree. Act like a weirdo and that's what you get.

A thumbs-down??? You obviously haven't yet endured the pain and cost of plantar warts and getting rid of them!!

A few days, I can't remember exactly how many. I was sick and stayed at home for days and I love being barefoot in the house.
