Bet you have cloth seats! When you shift around on the seats its just like dragging your sock feet across the carpet so you can shock your brother (boy that's a blast from the past). Fabric softener sheets or a rag or towel moistened (not saturated) with fabric softener) rubbed on the seats will help for a while and make your car smell better. Seat covers made of a different material may help if they are anti-static.

I had the same problem and found it very annoying. I thought I was being clever one day when I pushed the door closed with my foot. Got to the front door of the house, and got the shock from the aluminium door! Static can be caused by many synthetic materials from shoes, clothes, carpets, and upholstery. The first time I took a really long drive in the car, I felt generally unwell and I'm sure the static had something to do with it.

Is your car under warranty? If so I would hit up the dealership for answers. I have a 2005 Escape and have never been shocked by it.
Sounds like there might be a bad ground on the car itself, somewhere. That is potentially quite serious and should be looked at ASAP. Can you imagine every having a fuel leak, or having that happen at a gas station with someone pumping gas next to you. You could easily re-create the Big Bang with you in the middle of it.
Go talk to your Ford Dealer before someone gets hurt.

Your tires are the problem. When you have to replace them, tell the tire guy your problem, and he should be able to get you a different kind of tire. Until then, there are anti-static sprays you can use on your seat, or some people recommend using a fabric softener dryer sheet, simply rubbing it on the driver's seat.

Cary a 10 foot steel pole w/ you in the car.. Before you get out, take the pole and touch the nearest power line (up above your head).. It will discharge the static electricity that's built up.
Or you could wear a tin foil hat grounded to the ignition.

It's caused by electricity produced and stored in your body by the act of sliding across the seat as you exit.It only happens when the humidity is low.A different material to sit on or wear will stop it.
