Guilt because of America's own "holocaust".
From 1899 onwards, after the Spanish-American war, the Filipinos resisted American government.
What did the Americans do?
To sum it all up, an order given in the war:
"I want you to kill and burn. The more you kill and burn, the more pleased I will be."
In the end, they massacred over a million civilians. And you think you're soooo much better than the Germans?

What oldhippypaul said, plus Germans are reminded everyday of the war and everything that went along with it including the holocaust.
In every major German city you can still see evidence of the destruction. Pick up a guide book for Germany and you'll see that the intro to every city will say things like "Over 90% of the city was destroyed during allied air raids".
Also, when camps, or parts of them anyway still exist, those have more impact and are much more meaningful than any museum. Dachau, Sachsenhausen, Mittelbau-Dora, Neuengamme, Buchenwald, Ravensbrück, Flossenbürg, I'm sure there's others I'm missing but these sites in Germany are now protected. Seems kind of silly to build a museum to something when you can go look at the remnants of the actual camps, don't you think?
Germany doesn't need museums to serve as reminders of the war or the holocaust, they can't get away from it.
Edit:
Since you added your "additional details". I want to point out that you totally lose credibility suggesting that America today is comparable to Nazi Germany of the 30's and 40's. That's ludicrous. Honestly, I can't even believe you would suggest it. I for one am totally offended and I'm not even American. And I can't stop myself from saying you're a moron if you really believe it.

First, it's not a competition.
There are several memorials sites in Germany for the Holocaust. I can't say for sure that the USA has more.
There are more Jews living in the USA than anywhere else including Israel. The museums and memorial sites in the USA have been backed by private money. The Jews have vowed "never again" and this is one way to preserve that vow.
I wouldn't blame the lack of anything in Europe, not just Germany, on hypocrisy. The region, as a whole, has a history of hate towards the Jews. This continues to this day, which is why France has embraced the Muslims. But this is a different issue for a different question.

This is the mentality of an anti-american. No matter what, they can never see the good things the Americans have done to the world. These kind of people are trying hard to learn but never able to learn because they rather choose to remain blind to truth. Good luck. Thats your freedom. And I can depend your freedom although I don't subscribe to it.

i think that's a bit of a no brainer.
how many museums do we have here representing the decimation of the American Indian ? when was the last time you saw a museum dedicated to the victims of Hiroshima or Nagasaki?
I mean get real.
here we can acknowledge the truth of the holocaust .and we have alot of holocaust survivors and their decendants in the united states.
In Germany there are still those who deny that such a thing even happened or those who witnessed the atrocities claim it was not the fault of the citizen but of the military.then there are those who claim ignorance that anything was going on at all.
You expect them to build memorials? wouldnt that be admitting responsibility.?
the same holds true here .America feels vindicated in dropping the bomb on Japan.Alls fair in love and war ,Right?
It,s all too sad.

It's really easy to open a museum in the US. And with many immigrants, both Jewish and German, there's lots of people that want the world to remember.
Also, in Germany they try so hard to make sure nobody thinks they're paying homage to the Nazis that I think they are hesitant to open too many museums.

No it is because we have more lecherous Jews living here to reap in the money they receive in the museums so they can send it back to their "poor" relatives living in Israel who can not live on all of the money America donates for their welfare every year to the tune of better than Five Billion per year! - or over $1,379,000.00 per Jew!!
What a crock of Sit!!!!!!!!!
