This sounds like a question about medieval duel court systems. If this is case than you want Ecclesiastical courts. These were run by church officials and tried many of the same cases that civil courts did, among a few others as well. These courts lacked the power to condemn anyone, and instead retained excommunication as their severest form of punishment.
