I wouldn't say a word and ask him how his day was and if he pushed the subject I was dismiss it with saying that you don't wish to dicuss that with him until he pays the majority of the finances...you're the bread winner and he needs to respect the hand that feeds his lifestyle.

sounds like you are both money orientated
them for asking, you for bringing up you earnt the most all this time
maybe he asked as he is fed up having this pointed out, and feels a little inferior. sounds like you resent him asking, do you feel he is using you as a meal ticket? then only you can resolve this issue.
either way, its not healthy that money is the 1st focus in a relationship

Welcome to a mans life the joys of being the main income earner. Equal right for woman you got it, you get to go to work and be the main bread winner and that is what it's all about isn't it.
