keep your mouth shut, how often have you lost some money just to have that nice stranger come up to you and say oh hey here is that ten dollar bill you dropped, see my point? and to others telling you that they will find out sooner or later yeah they might but they can't prove you were watching it and that your tv was on so they will never know, all you have to do is say you didn't know you had it

The cable company will find out sooner or later and this is considered stealing, so what you are doing is illegal. Just so you know.
P.S. I can't believe that the "police officer" would be unethical and tell you it is ok.
