From what I've researched, the two are VERY similar. But the odds are always against him. He's my favorite X-man and I cant understand the animosity. When people comment on his background not being very well thought out, I ask how that is plausible when other characters have such far-fetched and ridiculous stories. If anything, his story is more realistic. But thats my opinion, wus yours?

i never liked gambit. he always seemed like a bad attempt to cash in on the anti hero trend of the early 90's and try to create another wolverine. i think his back story was silly (international jewel thief with a heart of gold! come on!). and i thought the whole trench coat wearing, chain smoking bad boy image was silly. his mutant power was pretty lame, and the writers had a knack of coming up with silly new powers for him. they gave him the loopy power that any gas he breaths becomes breathable air, and i always wondered if that was the case why does he smoke? wouldnt the smoke just turn into plain old air? the character pretty much lost all popularity after the faux comics gold rush of the 90's ended and the only people left buying comics were the people who actually read them.

I use to like Gambit in the early 1990's and then he got really annoying.
he is such a shady character. He can't be trusted, his "occupation" is a thief, he was one of the people responsible for the Mutant Massacre, He worked with Mr. Sinister, he is now one of Apocalypse's Horsemen, when he got a little popular he got WAY over used by Marvel, and his ridiculous ladies man shtick got old. Every appearance of Gambit was him hitting on Rogue or some other character. The guy is not a hero, he's someone you can't trust.
Wolverine on the other had is always shown to be a guy with honor. He is someone who will get the job done and not let you down.

Ok, one gambit has a French accent. Many Americans have an innate distrust for foreigners. Secondly what's with the glowing cards? What kinda mutant power is that? Jean gray can read people's thoughts, Magneto can do virtually anything to metal objects, Juggernaut is so @#$%ing strong, cyclops shoots lazer beams from his eyes (every 5th graders fantasy), and storm can control all aspects of the weather. What can gambit do? He makes a playing card glow and then hurls it at someone and makes it explode.... I could do that! All I need is a thing of scotch tape, some playing cards, and a few bottle rockets. What a weak @$$ mutant power.

Gambit is probably my favorite of the x-men. His power isn't "just making cards glow", he excites the very molecules of objects, and even molecules in the air (he once used it to throw wolverine a great distance). He also has a mild hypnotic charm power. He's got the sexy cajun accent and makes things explode by simply touching or looking at them, you've got to love him. I agree that his back story is one of the best in that it isn't too extreme. He was a mutated orphan that learned to be a theif on the streets.

Which two are talking about?
I like Gambit, love his accent, his style. His power is odd, or maybe just the way he uses it with the whole playing cards thing, but still cooler than say Jubilee's or Beast's.

Hey, I stopped reading X-man Years ago after the onslaught story line. Just to many cross-overs for my taste. Most of the people who answered this question. Don't look like comic readers. It seems that they are just talking about Gambit based on the 1st cartoon series. The guy "I like b.. " seems to be your only real answer so far. I would good to Marvel . com's message boards and ask the question again. When different writers try to add to someone history they tend to rewrite it and thing start to get messed up. Gambits a OK character. I read his 1st mini series a few years back when it came out. B/c I don't what to get hooked into the whole X-Men line again. I don't think I would buy a ongoing series with him.

I've never heard of people not liking Gambit. He's the best character out there. He's just so cool.
Whoever said his powers are pathetic is talking rubbish. Why would Apocalypse make him one of the Horseman of Death is his powers were so pathetic? He's so powerful he even became an Omega level Mutant which is reserved for characters like the Pheonix.

He's one of my most hated characters. He's not interesting, his powers are lame and his character is annoying.
I really wish they would put Rogue with another love interest because she could do so much better than Gambit.
