I have seen some arguments along this line, but I'm not sure how is that possible. I mean, the ID would contain only basic information of who you are, like name, date of birth, etc and perhaps a simple biometric like a thumbprint. Don't you already have to release these information when say, getting a driver's license or when purchasing real estate, etc?

Not talking about RFID here. Of course, I'll oppose RFID anytime.

How would a national ID card allow anyone to track your everymove?!

Okay, say we take the thumbprint out of the card. Wouldn't the card be okay then? Think of the card as a certification of citizenship, that's all.

well, i have never remembered having to give a thumbprint for any reason that i did not have to.. only military members, law enforcement officials, and criminals are required to do so (so i have, short stint in both the military and the drunk tank)

but as you said before, we already have this.. why do we need it on yet another thing? think of how easy it is for a person to mess up your life by simply getting a credit card statement.. imagine if they had all the information that a govt agency could possibly have about you on one nice little card.

and imagine if they had what would be the definitive proof of who you are in their possession.. we are actually much more safe now than we would be with a card.. at this point, for anything substantial you need to show at least two forms of id, etc.. with a natl id card, thats all you would need. i think that it is not only ridiculous, but a little frightening

Releasing personal information is not the same thing as being required by law to carry it around with you everywhere you go and being asked for it by "little Hitler" type minor officials with no real reason for requiring the information

National ID??of course it ain't a thread to our privacy...well unless if "ure" wanted..hehe..besides its not it good that u r known by ur gov...wow!haha..
owh btw,u answered my question rite?? yesterday or today which i juz deleted..hmm..wuts wrong wit having a surah entitled 'spoils of war' in a holy book..and i blif its meant to teach the muslims how to use spoils because if u study seerah(history of islam)there was a complication after the battle of Badar(the first battle in Islam)..yeah like who doesnt need money??besides war in Islam only means that we are defending Islam or spreading peace..n they only went for the war with Allah's permission..owh then u noe where do the spoils of war goes to??To Allah and his Prophet(the BaitulMal.house of money)the poor, the needy, new muslims, and people who r searching for knowledge, and those who went for the war itself..n juz my advice,u really shud read surah 20.Tahaa..its translation..before u tease the Holy Qur'an..

It would allow the government to track your every move. and yes you do already release this info however the id card will make it worse. Hitler did this in Germany and So did Stalin and Mao. it's a basic communist tool.

Drivers liscense, credit cards, my military ID. A national ID card is just another card I have to carry in my wallet.

I would only say do you believe it was ok in communist russia that in order to just go town to town you had to have your National ID with you in order to travel within the country? Do you believe it was ok in Nazi Germany to travel within the country with their National ID papers? You can't see any potential of abuse on this?
