I was mucking about on Saturday jumping on my husbands back playing bucking bronco.....

Don't even ask....LOL :)

he had hold of both my legs around his waist, when this giant gonk here decides to let go of his shoulders with both hands.....My husband still had ahold of my legs.....I went flying backwards & smacked my head on the pavement.......knocked myself out for a few seconds....hubby says my eyes were rolling & I vomited.....an ambulance was called & I spent the next 5 hours in hospital.....I don't recall a lot about it although I'm getting flashbacks now.....I haven't had any headaches as such....just pain from the bump on the back of my head & dizziness.
I'm training for the London to Brighton bike run which is in just over 4 weeks time.
When will it be safe for me to get back out there cycling? I don't want another fall & certainly don't want to put others in danger if it's too early yet.
I know it may seem like a daft question but, what do you think?

If you can stand on 1 leg with your eyes shut for 20 secs you should be OK to cycle but start off easy at first and watch out for anything whilst your riding. Goes without saying, stop if you don't feel right!

did you mention this cycling event to the dr you saw at the hospital? if so-what did he say?

usually people are advised to avoid strenous activity for at least 6 weeks after a head injury.

if this run is considered extremely strenous with lots of twists, turns, and steep hills then i would avoid participating in such. overworking your body when it's trying to heal could make you sick and have complications.

if you start to feel significantly better in the next week or so-check w/your dr about getting back on the bike.

good luck to you

I recommend you see a chiropractor and have him/her do a complete examination on you. They are the best with injuries and they do a lot with sports. The doctor would be able to tell you if you are in shape for going back to bicycling. The reason I recommend a chiropractor is because of the dizziness. This could cause a problem and also it needs to be corrected, which usually can be with chiropractic treatment. I've enclosed a link to where you can find a chiropractor hopefully in your area.

Four weeks should be a fair time to recover. Until then...just take it easy and don't stress out!
Good Luck : )
