I havent had my period since december last year. I was on birth control for about 5 or 6 years and my period was okay. I have had unprotected sex and also had a pregnancy test done and it was negative. Is there something seriously wrong with me? i am scared!

I had the very same experience & after being on birth control 4 years had the 1st period when u stop taking the pill then didn't get another period for 5 months. Then I didn't get another 1 for 7 months. I have since been diagnosed with Polycistic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and discovered that I have had it since my late teens but as I was on the pill never noticed. Go & see your doctor as you may have it too, particularly if you experience the following symptoms too:

1. Difficulty in managing weight
2. Spots around the chin and jaw line that are very swollen and painful but never come to a head
3. Low sex drive
4. Store a lot of weight in the abdomen area
5. Erratic mood swings

Don't be scared. Most menstrual problems are due to non life threatening conditions that can be easily managed. I manage my condition through a balanced diet and exercise to maintain a healthy weight, which is a major factor in PCOS.

First, you are risking your LIFE to have unprotected sex. Several reasons that you might not have your period:
1. If you are severely overweight or severely underweight or malnourished.
2. Your body may be adjusting after years of being on The Pill.
Do not be scared. Your body will come around when it is good and ready. Pay close attention to other areas of your health and take special care of yourself by eating right, reducing stress, getting enough sleep, and exercise. Walking is a good exercise!

See your GP, it could be anything.
A false-negative pregnancy test
your body hasn;t got back into it's rhythm as the pill can takes months to leave your system - took me 6 mnths for my cycle to return to normal after 1 yr on the pill
poly-cyctic ovaries or other gynae probs
underweight
stress
poor nutrition

Go see a dr - they'll give better advice and run the necessary tests

I would recommend seeing your dr to have them evaluate the situation. It's very possible that you could be having a hormone imbalance such as due to your thyroid that could be causing your period to be irregular.
