Can't get enough of the sport, particularly during the playoffs.
The NHL could probably weed out 10 games from the regular season schedule, but that would mean 5 fewer home games across the board, along with all the gate/concession dollars associated with them.

I can't imagine there being less hockey. Mid June through September is all about waiting for your team to make their next run at the Cup.
If the season were compacted, it would probably lead to another strike and it would take decades to recover. The game is vastly improved since the lockout and the general public could care less. We need to keep things the way they are and get some better marketing for the top players in the league. Right now, everything is thrown behind Crosby and Ovechkin and there are tons of other great stories and talented players out there.

I think the NHL should cut down to about 30 or 40 games per season and stretch the games out more. 80 games is way to long of a season and it's really hard to keep an interest in the sport in my opinion. You really don't get a good idea as to who will make the playoffs until about 2/3rds of the season is over. A team can be 30-0 at one point and then turn around and start losings games left and right and basically suck the rest of the season. In football, you can pretty much sum up who the contenders for the playoffs are going to be by the 5 or 6th game. Hockey is just to darn long and I feel the same about Basketball. If they could somehow cut the season short and start the season in November and end it in late March then I think it would allright.

no, however the playoffs are too long, i dont think that having the first round be a best-of-7 series is good, the first round cuts 8 teams and the round should either be shorter, or not there at all. Then we wouldn't have 16/30 teams make it into the playoffs, we would only have 8 and that would be make being in the playoffs much more honorable.
But i would be happy with a best-of-5 in the first round.

Why would any real fan of hockey want the season shorter? I mean come on! No Id rather not have an excuse to not clean the kitchen or mow the lawn.

either the regular season or playoffs need to be shortened. heres why: any team that goes deep into the playoffs has a very short off-season and it's impossible to physically recover from nagging little injuries that accumulate throughout the season. unless you've suffered a major injury, you should go into a new season feeling refreshed and ready to go, and it just doesnt happen.

No because there is very little gap between hockey and golf.
I hate those weeks between when my kids are done playing hockey and I can start playing golf, because I feel guilty not going to church then.

No because it's always been that way.
Hockey has always played 82 regular season games followed by 4 rounds of playoffs.
NBA has been the exact same way too.

No way. It's fine the way it is.
You guys that want to cut out 20-30 games? You're crazy.
I crave to watch hockey all the time. To watch even less, more spread out games? It'd drive me crazy!
Bettman would lose money, he probably wouldn't do it. (As well as owners..)
