My laptop's DVD drive is a Toshiba SD-R112. The first DVDs I bought were DVD-R of up to 16 speed, and I could burn those, even though my drive only does 1* or 2* burn speed. I got some 8* DVD+R DVDs and none of my programs recoignise them. The DVD packaging says "This media is intended for use with DVD 8* speed drives. Firmware upgrades may be necessary" and I upgraded the firmware to the latest but I still have no luck.
I read reports that this particular CD drive tends to pack it in easily.
Did I buy the wrong discs, or could those dics or my drive be broken?

SD-R112 is not a valid number.

Per Toshiba
SD-R1102 can not burn DVD's , only burn CD R, RW
SD-R1202 can burn only DVD-R,-RW and CD R, RW
SD-R6112 can burn only DVD-R,-RW and CD R, RW

If your drive is only 2x maximum then it's probably not a multi-format drive... it's probably only capable of handling DVD-r disks and won't understand DVD+r disks at all.

The front of the DVD tray should have a logo on it that identifies the type of disks it handles... or the manual for your PC may say what it's disk types are.

So I'd guess... wrong disks.

Go to the manufatures website and type in drivers for your labtop and see if they have any updates, and run your windows update and custom update it. Sometimes they have burner updates in there. Another issue is some burners only like DVD(-)R and then there are some that only accept (+)R . Most of the newer ones will accept both but I would stick with the (-)R's if they worked for you. That I think is the more likely solution.

It seems your DVD drive accepts DVD- not plus. Plus is new one and mostly new computer accept these DVDs. But my friends had same problems like you and when they returned back to DVD-(minus) their problem solved.

Why not try old ones DVD-

Note*** on DVD Drive, where lights blink when you insert DVD (or when you push inside)on top check under Embsed DVD there will be Minus sign
