A candidate should be anyone who fairly represents the will of the electoral.

People who have a degree in Political Science only know how to 'argue their point'. They don't necessarily know how to connect with the people they claim to represent.

Get back to the basics and forget all the 'mechanics' of politics - people want honest representatives that will voice their views loud and clear.

Who gives a monkeys what degree they've got?

or at least take a test in politics to see if they slept or were on drugs in Government class. I'm a professional political activist, and consultant. I can virtually run laps around the normal Joe blow voter, and half of the political talk show hosts. Guess what? I don't have a political science degree. I do agree with you, that a fair amount of the politicians are ignorant.

If you had to ask this question, I take it that your either very young, possibly still in school. The best answers can be directed to you from your local city, town hall. They should have a voter registration person that will help you. Or, go to your local high school and ask to see the Civics teacher.

They should be educated enough to be able to read and understand peoples problems. Also they should be able to articulate their point in debates.
Most importantly they need to have an inclination to study their constituencies for improvement and also study various items and agendas before debating.
A political science degree cannot ensure this though I think we need more educated people in politics.
