No, we don't really need them, but for the disabled and people who have a real job getting about, to own a computer is a lifeline for things such as banking, buying, searching for helpful information etc. Also games can pass the time and be entertaining, and all in all are a great invention which, I for one, would sadly miss and life would be very dull without it.

When you say 'really' you imply that a computer is necessary in every circumstance for everybody, in which case the answer is NO....but I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that once you have a computer, you begin to wonder what you did beforehand...We don't need many consumer electricals..I am not that old, but old enough to remember that the only two electrical items my Mum had were a radio and an electric blanket...and we didn't die....In years to come the computer itself may become obsolete.

The internet helps for research.
Databases can be stored on the computer (for companies).
A calculator is a kind of computer, and we need them!
It speeds up work time; it's slower to write everything out.
But at the same time...
You can research using books.
GAMES... not really needed.

My computer has made my life so much easier i dont have time to nip down town and pay bills or check bank account and i do this on line as well as shop all in my jim jams having brekky! the internet can be a great place if you're careful\cautious and is the best encyclopedia you will ever find you can also share your hobbies\interests.
