If they want to sell it they will be pleased to listen to your offer but dont go as high as you say until its is necessary Its a game, pretend to get up to leave and watch them agree to the cheaper price.~~

Great question. I've bought and sold cars. This is the best thing to do. Ignore the MSRP. Look at the other number, Invoice. Thats the number you want. You aske for a couple of grand below that. B/c they are hot cars right now, they may not budge but never ever ever pay msrp. No matter what the car is. Unless its like a lamborgani or something. Don't be taken by them, try to finance through your own bank, then offer them a straight deal. Don't tell them what payments you are wanting, b/c that lets them know how much will pay. ... not enough room to explain that. They will keep asking you that over and over. Dont tell them what payments you want. You need to look at the sales guy and say look i'll give you 2,000 below invoice and thats it. " they will usually do this, however if there is a cash rebate on the car, they may want to only sell at directly invoice. Which is ok, b/c this is a very popular car. So go with invoice, if you get rebates. Hope this helps.

I agree with donnie_e. I went in to buy my car (used however). The dealer originally told me 8995. When I came back suddenly it was 10500. So I immediately told the salesman what had happened and that the new price was out of my range even though it wasn't. Eventually they came back with 7400, which was an average of the Kelly Blue book retail value (what the dealer sells it for) and trade-in value (what they paid for it). Anyway new or used be prepared to walk away. There are always other dealerships who might be willing to haggle more.

The Best price to negotiate is the lowest price you can get the car for. I know that sounds like a silly statement but it is what it is. you've done your research on pricing now go in offer the low price and don't be afraid to walk out. The best way to get what you want in a negotiation is to care, but don't care to much, if they know that your heart is set on that car you have already lost. Look at prices for another car like it than have that price when you go in. if they say they can't give you the price you want tell them you heard that you can get a VW Rabbit for 12.5K and start to walk away from the table after you have sat down.

If you have a sense of social responsibility, why not buy an American car?
