Paparazzi takes your picture and sells it to the newspaper and then your on the front page. Why is this possible when others whom take your picture or record you (even if your just in the background) for like a TV show or something then they need you to sign a release? This does not make sense to me. Could someone explain all this for me please?

When a person is deemed a public figure he/she gives up their rights in public in regards to photographs.

It's the same reason a thief can steal your wallet and get away with it. He doesn't care about consequences, only profit.

Professional photographers need releases. Paparazzi are not true professional photographers.

Because these laws are enforced by US government and the US gov cant encroach on the freedom of press of any newspaper, including the Onion (joke news paper), haha.
Tv however is a private business that can be taken down by the government if they break privacy laws.
Were you in the papers recently? Haha
