If memory serves, then solids are graded from hardest (diamond, tho' we can now manufacture something harder) to the softest (presumably most brittle: talcum). We all know how soft talcum powder is, I think.

If you want a solid which shatters, all ionic compounds do.
Example: Table salt! (NaCl)
