Stoudamire and Diaw didn't even touch anyone but they are given suspensions for trying to stand up for Nash who was a two time NVP and the best and smallest guy on their team. The NBA should be standing up for Nash but the refuse to.

Well if your a Suns fan, then you would assume the answer to be yes. However, if your a Spurs fan then you could assume that this was justifiable. I don't really think that this is questionably favored in one way or the other but rather it is the decision that abides by the ruling. In agreement with Barkley after tonights game, some players are going to instinctly check out their teammates and that is just the way it is. So with that in mind, this NBA altercation rule needs to be changed and languaged differently. Perhaps, the ruling could state, " if another bench player approaches an altercation situation and it appears that they have some involvement then suspensions will be warranted". Then these suspensions will be justifiable eliminating open arguments as to whether or not the bench players did have some involvement. Of course, in the Suns case there was no involvement by either player. But until this ruling changes, the NBA has to enforce it. And arguably this is totally unfair! But it is what it is.

Dear fanodabu,

i think what the NBA really wanted to do was suspend Horry for just 1 game. However, they got put in between a rock and a hard place- because if they didn't suspend Diaw and Stoudemire they would have no recourse should a similar situation occur down the road.

Remember several years ago when the Heat and Knicks had a monster brawl and the Pacers/Pistons Mele was not that long ago. That's why they have that rule about not leaving the bench and who knows what would have happened had Mark Ivaroni (the Suns asst. not restrained Stoudemire). So they had to suspend Stoudemire and Diaw, but this would have given an advantage to San Antonio which is why they suspended Horry for 2 games instead of one.

Those are my thoughts.

Kindly,

Nickster

for all you ppl who put its a rule and they broke it crap, i bet none of you really know what the rule states. the rule was put in place so no one can join the altercation out on the court. boris and amare never even went to the altercation. the whole big altercation was afterward with horry and bell not with nash.

when the other altercation got going the players went back to the bench.

if they really are following their rules Duncan and Bowen should also be suspended for one game during their leaving of the bench during the second quarter.

the spurs have been playing dirty all series long and it has gotten out of control and stern ends up rewarding the Spurs. if this was game one or two it wouldnt matter but this is game 5 after the Suns had just reclaimed home court. now without even playing a game the series once again have swinged in the favor of the Spurs.

it was a cheap shot by horry who i have always liked as a player but after that my opinion of him went way down.

dont you think the suns wouldnt mind giving up jones if it takes out duncan and ginobili.

the thing that bothers me isnt the suspensions but to actually reward a team that was supposed to get punished is just mind blowing. i mean did i miss a part where the suns were playing dirty.

everyone on the court knew the rules, thats why the assistants were trying to run amare and diaw back to the players seats...its a hard and fast rule and doesnt change regular season or playoffs...the precedent had been set long ago as players who actually didnt get anywhere close to the fight got suspended in the knicks heat fight, five of them on one team... it isnt about standing up for one player or giving one team the edge, although that is what will happen...it is a rule...it was broken, it had been broken before and the league took action, it was broken the other night and the league took action, end of story... I must say, it will end up unfair in this instance...and it might get revisited, but Stern was smart in deciding not to show up to watch game 5 in Phoenix...he could get shot...

The rules are in place and all players have been warned. The rules need to changed they are outdated from when bench clearing brawls were a nightly thing like hockey. Everyone knew it was coming if you tivoed the game the assistant coach who pulled stoudamire back to the bench can be seen mouthing " you just got suspended". while looking up at stoudamire.

Exactly!!! I've been saying it all along. The league has allowed it to come to this point. How can anyone blame Amare and Diaw for standing up for their teammate?? The league has pretty much endorsed the dirty play of the Spurs. Did you hear what Nash said today?? Reports called him for comments and he just told them he was "too disgusted to talk about it." I can't blame the guy. I hope he's FIRED up though.

It's fair it's in the rules they knew the rules and then to make matters worse tried to use the excuse the coach was having me subsitute. Instead of manning up to his mistake Stoudemire cowardly backed his way into a corner. The rule is there for a reason and Nash is a grown man he can protect himself and there's 4 other Suns on the floor who can protect him doesn't take two people from the bench as well. If Nash hadn't flopped like a fish out of water none of that would have happened maybe you should place the blame on your so called leader. Punishment was deserving.

Suspending key player/s is punishing the whole team. A fine would be good enough.
Its because of the suspensions, that people say bad things about the players and the NBA itself. But of course, the NBA doesn't realize it.

The NBA just wants the Spurs to stop picking on Nash. They said to the Spurs, "OK, we'll elimate Amare and Boris if you promise to leave Steve alone."
Bruce Bowen replied, "I'd never think to hurt anyone, especially Steve."
Tim Duncan than said, "I like pie. Can me eat pie Manu?"
Manu than said, "I love it when you eat my pie."
David Stern, "Good, if you lose the next game we can take out Marion, Barbosa, Bell, and Nash. Love you all."

if the phantom call in game 5 is going uncalled because it may desire to have, Miami maximum probable does not be a championship team suited now. oh, and nevermind the D Wade elbow to Dirks ribs in the ultimate minutes of game 6 that someway replaced right into a foul on Dirk?!?!
