I think all those Texas oil company execs that are getting fat wallets from us having to pay at the pumps has shared some of their billions with the whole NBA front office!

Dear Willy,
i don't think that the NBA rigged the series for the Spurs first of all because the Suns are a lot more marketable than the Spurs. i mean who would rather watch the grind it out Spurs vs the fast breaking Suns.
That being said i think that the reason the NBA did what it did was this:
i think what the NBA really wanted to do was suspend Horry for just 1 game. However, they got put in between a rock and a hard place- because if they didn't suspend Diaw and Stoudemire they would have no recourse should a similar situation occur down the road.
Remember several years ago when the Heat and Knicks had a monster brawl and the Pacers/Pistons Mele was not that long ago. That's why they have that rule about not leaving the bench and who knows what would have happened had Mark Ivaroni (the Suns asst. not restrained Stoudemire). So they had to suspend Stoudemire and Diaw, but this would have given an advantage to San Antonio which is why they suspended Horry for 2 games instead of one.
Those are my thoughts.
Kindly,
Nickster

Both teams are relatively small market, but its pretty hard selling orange Jerseys outside of Arizona.
Since the Spurs roster is quite the international affair, and Stern has a global agenda for the NBA, it wouldn't hurt to see the Spurs in the finals a few more times before Yao is ready to take over (if he ever will be.)
The real issue is, I believe, that fans are going to start buying into the 'rigged' theory in the first place. With as many cheap shots and over-acted flops as a WCF match, its no wonder the integrity of the game becomes questioned. I wouldn't necessarily point at the refs - I think the other ten actors on the stage are just as much to blame.
NBA, please don't turn off the fans as the MLB and NHL have done.

stern didnt rig the series, amare and diaw should have kept their butts in the players seats, they knew the rules, everybody knows that 5 of the Knicks got suspensions when they got off the bench during a scuffle, including starks and ewing... while its true that the Spurs dont play visually exciting ball they are successful, one of the most successful teams of the last 10 years...much more than one could say for any suns team which has never won anything... tim could probably be more marketable, but he could probably not be any more successful...when he got there he made the Spurs a winner... tim may not be flashy, but when its all said and done he will be a top 50 of all time player with a handful of rings, and nash and amare will be lucky to have one ring and half the career that Tim has... (good post below me mentioning the flopping...bell, nash, ginobli have to be some of the best floppers in the league, it would be nice if there was a way to fine or penalize floppers...)

I believe the NBA are trying to act like the WWE!!! Ok, I will get real now. Do you remember when Timmy Duncan got ejected for laughing at that NBA Ref? I think the NBA is trying to pay back the Favor to him and the spurs. Did you also see that Timmy left the Bench when their was another confrontation with a suns and spurs player? Go Suns, I live in Phoenix and that sucks to see the NBA reck this Series!!! I just want to see a Fair Series!!!

How were the refs bribed. the suns went to the free throw line almost three times as much as the spurs. and Stu Jackson had to follow a outdated rule that needs to be changed.

By definition the Spurs players are guilty of stepping onto the court during an altercation. But whether it's for money, ratings or favor- they can't seem to apply the rules correctly.

If the rules were right, so why then Duncan and Bowen didn't get suspended for leaving the bench on James Jones-Fransisco Elson altercation on the same game?

It's just like any other games or sports. Someone definitely is getting some benefits for being unfair.
