The title is True Colors and it's the second album by 1980s icon and singer Cyndi Lauper, released in 1986. The title song, written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly, secured Lauper's status as a successful record producer and performer. It has been covered by countless other artists including Phil Collins, Anna Tsuchiya and Kasey Chambers, and was used as the theme song for the Olympic Games, the 2003 Rugby World Cup and for Kodak cameras and film. This album went double Platinum in the USA.
While the album was quite successful not only in the U.S. but world wide it failed to match the success of Lauper's previous album, She's So Unusual. A few singles into the album Lauper's popularity dropped significantly the fourth and final commercial single, Boy Blue failed to make a big impact on the charts.
True Colors - Cyndi Lauper
You with the sad eyes
Don't be discouraged
Oh I realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you fell so small
But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow
Show me a smile then
Don't be unhappy, can't remember
When I last saw you laughing
If this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know I'll be there
And I'll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow
