As other answerers say sodium hydroxide is very strong and effective. Your sink is not likely to be aluminium - more likely stainless steel so it is OK to use caustic, and caustic will not damage PVC. Pour a little into the plug hole and follow it with a small amount of hot water, leave for an hour and flush. If this does not work try again but leave it overnight. And if that doesn't work take the trap off.
