Do You actually read the answers through, or do You merely skim them? And if so, when You ask a question on Answers, and receive a truthful, albeit, negative reply, how do You feel? Is Your self-image or self-perception altered? Or are You open minded enough to cope with the reality of life that others have different views and opinions to Your own?

No.
Here on YA and in 'real' life, all of us must accept that we won't always agree with or be agreed with by others. It would be a really boring life if we were all alike.
Good luck

Answers that are given to me out of hatred or have derogatory remarks would not hurt my feelings, self-image or alter my perception. Rude remarks are only words to Me. I do have an open mind and if People have different views or opinions than mine? It's fine with Me. We all don't see things the same way or share the same thoughts and sentiments.

I don't think I ever saw a negative truthful answer to any of my questions. I read all answers I get and if I don't like the answer it gets a thumbs down. A really nasty gets flagged!
I'm not narrow minded but I don't like the term open minded

I really don't ask many questions here but I do answer and I answer with the hope that maybe I can helpjust one person overcome something in their life. But to your question If your answer didn't meet with my preconcieved thought I would still look at its merits. If you think you already know the answer and only want confirmation to what you already think then I think you should not even ask the question. I mean your mind is already set and nothing anyone says is going tochange it. for me a look at the answers and all the different ways it could help or hurt.

I do take the answers personally. When I ask a question, it is because I am genuinely interested in the opinions of others, and I am hoping somebody can relate.

When an answer sticks out as being particularly accurate and thorough, when it is obvious they really understood my question and sought to answer, I feel validated and often heed their advice.

When the majority dismisses my question, I do feel somewhat incompetent. Yesterday I asked a question pertaining to my struggle being both pro-choice and Roman Catholic. I did so reluctantly, as I was aware of the fundamental contradiction, but I was hoping someone out there understood. All I got was, "you are NOT Catholic." That hurt, my faith means so much to me.

But then I thought, who are they to judge? That's between me and God. Move along, sanctimonious hypocrites.

I almost always read every answer through, and I will admit that I haven't lost any sleep over negative replies. My self-perception doesn't change based on what some imbecile types into his computer at 3AM. LOL funny question!

I accept any responses received to my questions. Everyone has an opinion resulting from their individual experiences. Some of the answers are thought provoking. I think about the response, and see how it can help me.

I like to think that I'm pretty open minded. Some answers, wether to questions I posted or that I read from other questions, can be stupid, offensive, or just dead wrong, but I don't let it bother me because its just people's opinions and wether they are right or not, it doens't change who I am or the way I think.

Everybody need not have one view isn't it? So, when an honest answer comes my way, i analyse myself thoroughly before coming to any kind of decision. May be, one honestly given answer can clear my doubt and make me see my mistakes and correct them for good, right? :-)

If it's reasonable criticism, I am more than glad with it. If its just plain abusive, I feel that I should shove a large pointy stick up their a**. But enough about me, how about you? :)
