went haywire today while driving, first the battery light went on then it smelled funny in the car then, all windshield wipers, horn, and lights were blinking then it said battery lining light and then it stalled and would not start again...what are is malfunctioning? battery alternator wiring or ignition?

I would put all my money on a bad ground, and I would start with the battery cable if its never been replaced...

You might get lucky and just replace the alternator brushes they come attached to the black plastic piece (voltage regulator) on the back of the alternator. You described a low voltage problem either caused by a missing alternator belt or no charging from the alternator.
