Has MTV ruined music?

I think so. They always hop on the latest trend so for 5 years it's hard to hear any diverse music, or any music at all (Unless you call rap music). this is what happened
it's really simple....music and TV don't mix, why? because let's say you hear an LP without the video....you get an opinion of the band (good or bad)
but when you see the video, some people think "oh, the lead singer is so cute" and in a way, they force themselves to like his music....the perfect example is Pete Wentz-Fall Out Boy
same hapens the other way around...."those guys look like trash, i guess their music isn't that good after all"

also, what has been happening lately is that they have been putting more time into making a video than the music itself! so the video is good, but the music sucks (i don't really like the videos they show on MTV...but it's just an example)

go back in time before MTV....were the all the singers all that good looking? No, but they had talent....guys like the Sex Pistols, the Ramones, Zeppelin, Jimi, The Who....weren't attractive-but it didn't matter-because there were no videos and beauty contests. You just bought the record and listened.

I really don't believed that MTV has ruined music. The only think that MTV has ruined is itself. I enjoy music on a daily basis and MTV has had no detriment effect on my enjoyment of music. The reason for this is that I don't watch MTV...if fact, I haven't watched it in years. If they want to take two hours per day to tell the disillusioned youth of America what they're supposed to think is cool while filling the rest of the day with recycled garbage, then that's fine...at least they're only playing crappy music for two hours a day.

By the way...I'm 26 years old and I fondly remember the good old days when all MTV played was music videos and The Real World....dang Real World ruined everything for MTV...grumble grumble

The last few times I have checked, MTV appears to have given up on music. All I see are game shows and reality shows. I know plenty of places to find good music, so who needs MTV?

I haven't had cable in a couple of years, but yes Mtv has been a downfall for music. Bring back the head bangers ball and I might get cable again..

MTV is SUPPOSED to stand for MUSIC TELEVISION but they only thing they show is reality TV shows and 80's movies on the weekends! BOO for MTV and VH1 too!

It's not like the old MTV with the music videos.....now it's just shows and reality shows.......
I miss the old MTV ....but I love watching the Real World !!! So I don't want it taken off the air....

I totally agree. all they do is play rap and hip-hop, which is generally stupid and masogynistic and pointless. and that's only when they do play music, and not just their stupid reality shows.

yeah... all they play is rubbish pop, & their shows are completely useless, & are a waste of time. plus, all the 'nice' manners they teach kids. someone should sue them.
