I have had three hondas and never had any serious problems with them.

Yes they are very reliable. In the Coast Guard I had three identical boats with different engines on all 3. The 225 v-tech Honda's out ran and outlasted the OMC's and the Merc's. They were also less of a maintenance hassle. These are boats used for law enforcement, saving lives and rescue operations.....I ended up putting Honda's on all 3 boats prior to retiring.

They're very good and have an excellent reputation. The weak point of all the modern engines however is the the computer controls. The good lord did not mean for complex wiring and computers to work well in the Marine Environment. For reliability, go for 2cycle, conventional ignition.

They are extremely reliable, however, they are extremely expensive. Suzuki has the best bang for the buck right now.

go for the evenrude E-TEC or a mercury optimax

they are good, i have driven several during my summers at catalina island, and they are great motors.
